You get happiness from something based on how much it demands your attention.

This means that goods are overrated and experiences are undervalued (wow, how unique of an idea). You’ll eventually stop thinking about your car while driving or about your new house while living in it. A book club will occupy your attention every meeting. Playing guitar will require your attention every practice session.

Luckily, I know of a system that you can use to reliably orchestrate your attention.
