WYSIATI: The way you search for evidence is usually affirmative of the question. “Is Sam helpful?” will lead to a different answer than “is Sam unhelpful.” When you search for information to evaluate your beliefs, your System 2 will tend to find information that validates those beliefs. If you support a bill, you will think that the benefits are high and the costs are low. If you’re given evidence that makes the benefits seem higher, the costs will seem lower as well, even if you weren’t given any new information about the costs.
Availability Heuristic: A form of Substitution Bias, where something is judged by how easily examples of it come to mind.
